Evaluating the Dilution of Precision of the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System for the Users in the Iranian Territory abstract

This paper presents the results of analyzing the variation of the dilution of precision of the Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System for the users within the Iranian territory. Prior to the analysis, by considering the geometrical positions of the IRNSS satellites with respect to the intended regions as well as the results presented in the referenced documents, it is obvious that the corresponding DOPs are beyond the typical levels for global GNSS. However, to determine the variation pattern of the DOPs, this analysis has been carried out by incorporating the orbital data of IRNSS satellites for a typical 24 -hour period and then DOPs parameters have been calculated for the coordinates within the intended regions. In spite of the fact that there are at least five satellites visible by users within Iranian territory considering the minimum elevation angle of 10 degrees, it is found that the resulted DOPs for the region deteriorate rapidly as the user’s coordinates moves from southeast to northwest. This shows the fact that IRNSS cannot be deemed as a standalone navigation system for users n Iran if the performance delivered by typical global GNSSs such as GPS and the like is expected. However, some complementary measures can be adopted to mitigate DOPS shortcomings.
