Prediction of social anxiety based on intolerance of uncertainty, behavioral inhibition systems and negative affect in students abstract

Social Anxiety Disorder SAD is a debilitating disorder that affects a large percentage of people in the community. This study aimed to predict social anxiety based on intolerance of uncertainty, behavioral inhibition systems and negative affects. The sample consist of 210 students of Alzahra University. They were selected by random cluster sampling and responded to Leibowitz Social Anxiety Scale LSAS, Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale IUS, Inhibition and Activation Behavioral System BIS/BAS and Positive and Negative Affect Schedule PANAS. The obtained data were analyzed by using multiple linear regression method using SPSS21 software. The results of the data analysis showed that there was a significant positive relationship between intolerance of uncertainty, and negative affects with social anxiety p < 0/01 and behavioral inhibition system with social anxiety p < 0/05. Also, the results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that uncertainty intolerance, behavioral inhibition system and negative affects significantly predicted social anxiety.
