Gender Letter-Writing Styles

In this study, the author intends to address the gender letter-writing styles in framework of Robin Lakoff theory. By studying 22 letters from women and men who had written for a consultant and published in monthly journals, the author observed that women used the evidential expression, such as I think, significantly more often than men. This difference in frequency indicates the difference in the style of communication between women and men. Studies have shown that women s style has been more involved and interactive. Data were collected based on library method and then were examined by considering the gender variable as the main variable and linguistic structural element as sub variable.
