Abstract:

Two kinds of polyphagous hybrid silkworm eggs namely 7409xcs120 and N19xcs120 were used to isolate the related Japanese and Chinese parental lines. For this purpose from 1999 the imported hybrid eggs were used to obtain the F2 generations for each type. Within 4 years rearing and selection two Japanese parental lines named 7409 and N19 and two Chinese parental lines named cs120 (7409) and cs120 (N19) were successfully isolated. Batch wise (one female moth egg laying) rearing and selection following by full sib mating in progenies were used within 8 generations. Important characters such as female moth fecundity, egg hatching rate, larval duration, percentages of good, middle, low and double cocoons, single cocoon weight, cocoon shell rate, egg color, pattern of larval marking and form of cocoon were investigated. The isolated parental lines were introduced to Iran silkworm germ plasm as new genetic resources after 8th generation.
