Land solemnization is a major limiting factor for conventional crop production, especially in arid and semi-arid regions of the country. In Iran, vast amounts of saline lands, shortage of fresh water resources, secondary land salinization and a broad diverse of halophytic species has impose a necessary demand on utilizing saline soil and water resources. This experiment designed to determine the effect of nitrogen and phosphorous fertilizers on the yiled and yield components of forage halophytes during three years under saline conditions in an open shadehouse. The five species of halophytes studied were; Atriplex canescens, A. halimus, A. lentiformis, A. nummularia and Kochia indica. The experimental design was complete randomized block as a factorial experiment with three replications. Treatments were five species of and three levels of nitrogen and phosphorous fertilizers (0, 25, 50 kg N/ha). The electrical conductivity of irrigation water was 14 dS/m using bubbler irrigation system. All plants were cut off 3-4 times at about 30 cm from the soil surface for measuring yield and yield component. During the experiment, Soil salinity was monitored as well. Results of this experiment showed that among the tested halophytes, A. canescens and K. indica produced maximum shoot fresh weight, however, the lowest yield was obtained from A. nummularia and A. lentiformis. Result of this experiment showed that although phosphorous application showed no significant effect on the production of halophytes, nitrogen fertilizer increased yield and yield components of halophytes specially at the highest rate (50 kg/ha).
