Abstract:

In order to determine the performance of sugar beet breeding lines undersalinity stress conditions and screening indices of salinity tolerance, 30 sugar beetlines were tested under salinity and normal conditions in West Azarbayejan, Iran,in 2017. The experimental design was a randomized complete block with threereplications under normal and stress conditions. Twelve salinity tolerance indiceswere calculated for various genotypes based on root and sugar yield under the bothstress and non-stress conditions. All lines had a higher average root and sugar yieldin normal conditions than salinity conditions. According to MP, GMP, STI, SSI,YI, YSI and SI indices, lines 6, 13 and 25 were the most tolerant to salinity for rootand sugar yields, whereas for TOL, ATI and SSPI indices lines 11, 24 and 30 werethe most tolerance for these two traits. The correlation between salinity indicesfor root and sugar yields under both conditions, could be used as the most suitableindex for screening salinity tolerant genotypes. According to MP, GMP, STI, SSI,YI, YSI and SI indices, lines 6, 13 and 25 were the most tolerant to salinity for rootand sugar yields, whereas for TOL, ATI and SSPI indices lines 11, 24 and 30 werethe most tolerant for these two traits.
