Abstract:
Traditional classroom-based assessment plays a very important role when it comes to determining whether students have mastered the content that was covered in classes. For this project, we are interested to measure the reading abilities of beginning English language learners at an academic English program in the United States. More specifically, we are hoping to administer the test once students covered Unit 4, Unit 5, and Unit 6 in the required textbook that they are currently using in the program, NorthStar Reading and Writing Book 2 (2014). Given the fact that these students are learning English for academic purposes, it is really important tohelp them from the beginning to improve their reading skills because it will assist them to be fully prepared to complete reading tasks once they start attending classes at the college-level either in the States or abroad.
