The Effect of Writing and Reading Workshops based on Lucy Calkins's Model (1986) on EFL Learners' Writing and Reading Proficiency abstract
The purpose of this study was to first investigate the effect of workshops on developing writing/reading skill and second to see the differential effect of each workshop (i.e. reading workshop & writing workshop). Thus, in order to gauge the effectiveness of the workshops, this study have been implemented in Shokouh language institute, Mashhad branch, Iran. The workshops models focus on short “focus lessons” followed by individual choice in reading/writing materials to practice the skill that was taught. Students were randomly assigned to four different groups of workshops conditions in which they practiced writing and reading conditions. Specific instruction was provided to the students in each treatment group during a single 45-minute session, four weeks’ instruction primarily to ensure they understood their assigned task. The findings revealed that workshops weresignificantly effective than the conventional instruct on one hand and workshop instruction proved more effective to implement better motivation among learners.
