Abstract:

The goal of language learning is developing learners’ communicative competence to make them capable of using the language and to communicate meaningfully in target situations (MacIntyre & Charos, ۱۹۹۶). Learners need to use language communicatively to acquire it thoroughly (Joe, H., Hiver, P., Al-Hoorie, A. H., ۲۰۱۷) and to communicate, learners need to believe in themselves and be motivated enough to take the risk and step out of their comfort zone. With the aim of emphasizing the crucial role of students’ self-efficacy on their willingness to communicate, the present study investigated the relationship between the two variables on ۶۴ EFL intermediate Iranian students through estimating the Pearson Correlation Coefficient on the data collected from the two questionnaires i.e., English self-efficacy (QESE) by Wang (۲۰۰۴) and a willingness to communicate (WTC) questionnaire developed by Peng and Woodrow (۲۰۱۰). The results demonstrated a positive correlation between students’ self-efficacy and their WTC in EFL classes which in turn necessitates an educational milieu able to foster the grounds
