Abstract:

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have many of extraordinary characteristics give them potential in numerous applications, where the combination of exceptional mechanical and physical properties makes CNTs an incredible range of all kind of applications. There are numerous carbon nanotubes properties and applications that take full advantage of CNTs aspect ratio, mechanical strength, electrical and thermal conductivity. The nanotubes have high Young’s modulus and tensile strength, which makes them preferable for composite materials with improved mechanical properties. In this way, we can investigate from these features of carbon nanotube to enhance the mechanical properties based on metamaterial. In this paper, the representative volume elements are constructed by considering unit cells of different models aligned in different spatial angles, and their elastic moduli. We found that while the elastic properties of some architected structures may increase as the orientation angle increases from zero, for some others, a reduction in the elastic moduli can be observed as the angle rises.
