Abstract:

High quality joining of copper to other dissimilar material like Aluminum is critical in today industrial production. Laser welding as a high precise and rapid process is growing fast and most of the joining can be cover by this technology. However, to overcome the reflectivity and achieving melting threshold of copper, a high power of laser is necessary to create a keyhole mode of welding which has side effects like generation of intermetallic and brittle phases during the welding. Laser surface texturing considered as a technique which prepare the surface of copper for late laser welding and reduce possibility of defects during the process.In this context, the effect of the most significant laser texturing parameters as a preparation process for laser welding investigated. Results from microstructure of textured copper evidenced, the less velocity and frequency of laser source, the deeper texture pattern on surface of copper and consequently more weldability for Al-Cu welding with less laser power and higher mechanical strength on welded zone. The best mechanical strength of Al-Cu welding with fiber laser welding, achieved by a textured copper of velocity ۲۰ mm/s and frequency of ۴۰۰۰۰ HZ of laser texturing.
