Abstract:

Although there are quite a number of translated texts (TTs) created from a single source text, they are not of the same quality. The quality of TTs can be assessed using translation quality assessment (TQA) models. The aim of this paper is to find matches and mismatches between an original English literary text and its two Persian translations. It also aims to investigate whether the variable of time span could affect the quality of translation or not. Another aim of the present work is to determine which translation has a higher quality. To achieve this goal, the story of Evelin from Dubliners by James Joyce (۱۹۱۴) and its two Persian translations were selected for analysis. The first translation was published by Parviz Daryoush in ۱۹۶۷, while the second translation was presented ۵۰ years later by Ahmad Golshiri. The model chosen for analyzing the data was that of House (۲۰۱۵), whose applicability and completeness have been confirmed in various studies. The results of the study showed that translators have shown a greater tendency to use simple and everyday vocabulary over time. Moreover, Golshiri's translation was found to be of higher quality than Daryoush's.
