SEISMOTECTONICS OF RECENT EARTHQUAKES IN WESTERN FARS AREA;SOUTHERN ZAGFOS, IRAN

The western Fars area in the middle of the folded Zagros, is the most recent seismic active zone in this belt. The fundamental strictures such as the Ghatar-Kazerun flexure and the Karehbäs-Firuzabad flexure have intersected the NW-SE trend of the beit. The recent earthquakes have been induced from the reaclivation of the mentioned structures. A shear zone is created hetvean these two ilexures, (named in this paper as the "Kazerun zore"), which is deformed through a right-hand tranpression mechanism. It is found that the principal stress axis of the recenž motions differs from N۴-۹E in the Zagros suture (more compressional), to N۲۱-۴۶E in the Firuzabad area (right-lateral strike-slip), Ivo intersection zones are introduced along Khurmoj-Firuzabad lineament system.
