Abstract:
The present study was an attempt to investigate the effect of online games on Iranian intermediate EFL learners' vocabulary knowledge and motivation. The participants were divided into two groups of control and experimental, comprising ۳۰ learners each. The experimental group received online games treatment while the control group was thought traditionally. An online vocabulary level test of Oxford and a questionnaire on motivation were given to both groups as the pre and post-tests.After data collection, a Mann-Whitney U test was run to investigate the vocabulary level of the participating groups before and after the treatment. To analyze the data of the motivation questionnaire, an independent sample t-test was run. The data analyses showed that playing online games had positive effects on Iranian intermediate EFL learners' vocabulary knowledge and motivation
