Abstract:
The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between parenting styles and self-concept and social development of elementary students. The subjects of this study are ۲۰۰ students (girls and boys) of the fourth and fifth grade of elementary school in Kermanshah province and parents in the academic year ۱۳۹۹-۱۴۰۰, who have been selected based on cluster random sampling and with the help of The Bamrind (۱۹۷۳) Parenting Styles Questionnaire, the Wayland Social Development Questionnaire (۱۹۶۵), and the Pyryt Mendaglio Self-Perceptual Survey Questionnaire were evaluated. Pearson correlation and regression analysis were used to analyze the data. The results of data analysis indicate that there is a significant relationship between parenting styles, self-concept and social development of students. Authoritarian parenting practices negatively and free-spirited and authoritative parenting practices positively predict social development and self-concept in students. But an authoritative parenting style can more strongly predict positive social development and self-concept in students
