Abstract:

Polycystic ovary syndrome is a common endocrinopathy in reproductive-age women. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of ۱۲ weeks of home-based aerobic exercise and low caloric standard diet on body composition of overweight and obese women with polycystic ovary syndrome. The method of this research was semi-experimental with pre-test post-test design and applied approach. ۲۰ women with polycystic ovary syndrome with mean ± standard deviation age of ۲۷.۹±۴.۸ years, weight ۸۱.۳۶±۸.۵ kg and body mass index ۳۰.۳±۴.۷ kg /m۲ referred to Arash Women Hospital in Tehran, was selected as a statistical sample and randomly divided into two groups (n=۱۰). Anthropometric parameters and body composition were measured just before and After ۱۲ weeks of intervention. The home-based aerobic exercise program consisted of ۳۰ minutes in five days a week with ۷۰ to ۸۵% HRmax. Also, the standard low-calorie diet (about ۱۲۰۰ to ۱۵۰۰ kcal) was prescribed based on the individual characteristics of each subject in intervention group. Also The control group was asked to continue their diet and exercise activities as usual. t-test was used to compare the percentage of changes independent variables (P≤۰.۰۵).After the intervention, a significant decrease in weight, body mass index, Waist Circumference, were associated with a significant decrease in percentage of total body fat, body fat mass, fat free mass, and visceral fat area.It seems that a ۱۲ weeks of home-based aerobic exercise and low caloric standard diet can improve anthropometric parameters along with body composition of overweight and obese women with polycystic ovary syndrome. Therefore, it is recommended that this interventions be prescribed to treatment of overweight and obese women with polycystic ovary syndrome.
