The effect of ۸ weeks of HIIT training and green tea catechin beverage on serum lipid profile and body composition in sedentary obese men

Abstract:

Physiological and pharmacological studies show that high interval intensity training (HIIT) and consumption of green tea catechins have beneficial effects on adipose tissue metabolism. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of ۸ weeks of HIIT training and green tea catechin drink on lipid profile and body composition in sedentary obese men.For this purpose, ۴۸ obese men (BMI: ۳۲.۱۴±۱.۵۶ kg.m۲) with a mean age (۳۸.۶۷±۳.۱۱ years) and sedentary were randomly divided into ۴ groups of ۱۲ people including: HIIT, Green Tea Catechin, Green Tea Catechins+HIIT and Control. The HIIT training protocol (with an intensity of ۷۵ to ۸۰% HRR; ۳ days a week) and the consumption of beverages (catechin ۶۰۰ mg with ۳۰ mg of caffeine - every day for ۳۰ minutes) were performed for ۸ weeks. Body composition indices as well as blood samples were measured to evaluate the serum lipid profile of subjects in pre-test and post-test.The results showed that the most significant decreasing changes in BMI (۹.۵۴%), BF% (۱۳.۶۷%), TG (۵.۴۹%), TC (۳.۵۱%) and LDL (۳.۱۶%) belonged to HIIT-catechin group (p <۰.۰۱۵). The interactive effect of HIIT and catechin significantly reduced BMI (p = ۰.۰۰۰۱), BF% (p = ۰.۰۰۱), TC (p = ۰.۰۱۸), TG (p = ۰.۰۳۲), LDL (p = ۰.۰۳۹), and a significant increase in HDL (p = ۰.۰۴۳).Therefore, based on the results, it can be stated that HIIT training with green tea catechin consumption is associated with significant and beneficial changes in body composition indices and serum lipid profile in obese and sedentary men.
