Abstract:

Marine structures are usually designed to operate in a wave environment. Unsteady motions and structural loading are two principal resulting problems. If the body is also advancing in waves, the steady motion problem should be also considered. The oscillatory motions of bodies near the free surface of an inviscid, homogeneous, and incompressible fluid are studied numerically. The potential theory is applied under the assumption of irrotational fluid flow. The problem is formulated in direct integral equations, and boundary element method with triangular flat panels has beenmanipulated. The computations are carried out on submerged bodies with spherical and spheroidal structures. The non-dimensional hydrodynamiccoefficients are obtained and illustrated as function of wave frequency. The comparison between analytical solution and numerical results reveals high accuracy of numerical computations
