Abstract:

Introduction: To comprehensively assess systematic review and meta-analysis of studies reporting on the association between maternal prenatal cigarette smoking with child overweight, cleft palate and placental abruption Methods: Two authors independently searched databases of MEDLINE, SCOUPS and Cochrane library for systematic review and meta-analysis from inception to November ۲۰۱۸. Results: According a meta– analysis with ۱۴ observational studies, children whose mothers smoked during pregnancy were at elevated risk for overweight (pooled adjusted odds ratio (OR) ۱.۵۰, ۹۵% CI: ۱.۳۶, ۱.۶۵) at ages ۳–۳۳ years, compared with children whose mothers did not smoke during pregnancy. According to a meta-analysis with ۱,۳۵۸,۰۸۳ pregnancies, Smoking was associated with a ۹۰% increase in the risk of placental abruption (odds ratio [OR] ۱.۹, ۹۵% confidence interval [CI] ۱.۸, ۲.۰). According to meta-analysis with ۲۴ case control and cohort studies. A statistically significant associations were found between maternal smoking and cleft lip, with or without cleft palate (relative risk ۱.۳۴, ۹۵% confidence interval ۱.۲۵ ۱.۴۴) and between maternal smoking and cleft palate (relative risk ۱.۲۲, ۹۵% confidence interval ۱.۱۰ ۱.۳۵). Conclusion: Prenatal smoking exposure appears to increase rates of overweight, cleft palate and placental abruption
