Abstract:

The concept of the BTC is implied the ability of theblade to twist as it bends under the action of increasedaerodynamic thrust load. In this research material based BTC isaddressed. It is accomplished through the introduction of an offsetangle on the plies of the uni-directional material over the spar capsof the blade. A novelty of the hybrid BTC wind turbine blade isintroduced. The load reduction capabilities of two hybrid BTCblades, with variable (two-level) ply offset angle, are assessed incomparison to conventional BTC blades with constant ply offsetangle starting at different spanwise positions (۰%, ۲۰%, ۳۵% and۵۰%). In all configurations BTC is realized through changing theorientation of the UD plies on the spar caps of the blade. Theresults of hybrid۲ blade are given higher load reductionscompared to all other configurations while the results of hybrid۱blade are shown similar with the conventional Y=۳۵% blade.
