Abstract:

One of the serious and growing problems in most urban areas is the lack of suitable place for solid wastedisposal. Thus, landfill sites are among the most important subjects in engineering geological studies. The landfill siteselection involves determining some parameters such as engineering, social, and political elements. Building a landfillin an unsuitable site can have negative environmental, economic, ecological and social effects and consequences.Therefore, it should be selected carefully by considering both regulations and constraints on there source. In thepresent case study, landfill site selection was performed using geographic information system (GIS) and Fuzzyanalytic hierarchy process (FAHP) method in Kangavar city (western Iran). For this purpose, nine criteria includinggeology, surface water, aquifer properties, elevation, slope, distance to main roads, residential areas, faults, and landuse were utilized. To implement FAHP, each criterion was weighted followed by using GIS to manipulate and presentspatial data. Finally, the suitability map was prepared by overlay analysis of the areas identified and checked assuitable. The results indicated that ۸۵.۲۹% of the study area (۷۵۱.۴۷ km۲) is unsuitable, ۱۱.۹۸% (۱۰۵.۶۲ km۲) ismoderately suitable, and ۲.۷۳% (۲۴.۰۲ km۲) is most suitable for landfill construction.
