Application of synthetic polymer nanocomposite in oil and gas well cement slurry to prevent gas migration and control shrinkage and cracking abstract

This research focuses on controlling gas migration ch focuses on controlling ge within cement in the early stages of cement setting through a new synthesized butadiene-CNT polymer nanocomposite latex. Feedback of the super-elastic behavior of carbon nanotubes has been manifested by a 75% increase in modulus of elasticity and a 48% increase in flexural strength in cementitious samples reinforced with polymer nanocomposite latex. Improvement of surface tension by polymer latex in slurry and enough tensile strength during cement hydration have positive control and compensatory effects in early shrinkage and resistance to the development of fissures and cracks in the hardening cement. Optimized cement slurries containing polymer nanocomposite additives dramatically reduce the critical transfer time window to about 40 minutes for gelatinized cement, thereby reducing the risk of gas migration during the mentioned critical period for cement slurry.
