Abstract:
Radon poses serious health risks especialy in remote areas. Low-cost sensor devices have emerged as a promising technology, but their reliability is still unknown. Therefore, this research, a semi-conductor detector using a photodiode and a transistor has been made to monitor and detect radon and its decomposition products in different and even remote places, which provides information on the level of radon in real time. It is transmitted by a GSM system to a data transmitter. To evaluate the detector, soil containing natural uranium is placed in a closed chamber to reach a stable equilibrium. The field count level was recorded for different activity levels and different counting times and the detector was exposed to uranium soil. The results show that the counts are proportional to the counting time and activity levels and the detector can be calibrated to a standard radon source.
