The potential of herbal medicine for prostatecancer therapy as an alternative of the commoncancer treatments

Prostate cancer is the second most common cause of cancer death worldwide in men.Common cancer therapies such as chemotherapy, hormonetherapy, surgery andimmunotherapy have annoying side effects on patients. Moreover, the medicines using for thecommon cancer therapies reported as a case of environment polluters. Recently, herbalmedicine received great attention for cancer therapy owing to their minimal side effects andeco-friendly properties. In this research, Teucrium hyrcanicum was investigated as a novelherbal medicine for prostate cancer cells (PC-۳) treatment. First the flavonoid content andother components of T. hyrcanicum were measured by GC-MS analysis. Then, to evaluate theanticancer potential of T. hyrcanicum for prostate cancer removing, MTT assay, WoundhealingAssay, Clonogenic Assay were analyzed before and after treatment with differentconcentrations of T. hyrcanicum. The results revealed that T. hyrcanicum has components suchas Skatole, Indole and Tetrodecanoic acid that indicated its high potential of anticancerproperty. The results of MTT, Woundhealing and colonogenic assay proved that methanolicextraction of T. hyrcanicum effectively removed prostate cancer cells (PC-۳). This worksuggests T. hyrcanicum as a promising herbal medicine for prostate cancer treatment.
