Analog Methods for Measuring Capacitors with Low Capacitance abstract
This article presents two analog methods for measuring capacitors with low capacitance. The first method is based on the triangular pulse technique, where a triangular waveform is applied to the capacitor and the resulting voltage waveform is observed. The capacitance value can be determined from the time constant of the voltage decay. The second method is based on the resonance frequency technique, where the capacitor is connected to an LC tank circuit and the resonance frequency is measured. The capacitance value can be calculated from the known values of the inductance and the resonance frequency. Both methods are suitable for measuring capacitors with capacitance values as low as a few picofarads. The advantages and limitations of each method are discussed, and practical considerations for implementing these methods are presented. These analog methods provide an alternative to digital methods for measuring low-value capacitors in situations where high accuracy is not required.
