Abstract:

Fog computing is a new computing model in which computing resources are transferred from the data center to the edges of the network. One of the problems that smart devices have in the Internet of Things model is the lack of computing resources such as processors and storage equipment. This problem can be solved with the presence of cloud computing so that smart objects and equipment can send their storage and processing requests to data centers and receive the result of the request. But there is a problem in this architecture and that is the delay created in sending and receiving the response from the object to the data center. This issue causes serious problems especially in delay-sensitive applications. In this way, a middle layer of the cloud is needed, i.e. the same data centers in cloud computing to the ground (meaning the same objects in the Internet of Things) and it is nothing but fog. For this reason, the name of this architecture is called fog computing. In the fog layer, there are a number of fog devices that try to meet the computing and storage requests of objects as much as possible. Compared to cloud computing, the goal of fog computing is to transfer computing resources to the neighborhood of end users in order to increase the quality of service (QoS) and save infrastructure bandwidth.
