Abstract:

This study aims to assess the effectiveness of Content-Based Language Teaching in enhancing speakingproficiency among Iranian English learners. The main research objectives aimed to investigate whetherContent-Based Language Teaching yielded positive results in terms of enhancing students' speakingproficiency. The research was conducted over six sessions, involving a pre-test, followed by a series oftreatment sessions. The -test conducted in the last session. The research design adopted for this study wasQuasi-Experimental.The research population consisted of ۱۲۷ students, and a random cluster sampling method was employed toselect the sample. The sample was divided into two groups: the experimental group (comprising ۲۹ students )was subjected to Content-Based Language Teaching, while the control group (comprising ۳۰ students ) receivedinstruction using the mainstream method. The data collection process relied on tests, and subsequent analysiswas performed using an independent t-test.The study found that students in the experimental group, who received instruction through Content-BasedLanguage Teaching, achieved a mean score of ۶۶.۳۸. In contrast, the control group, instructed using thetraditional direct method, obtained a mean score of ۶۰.۳. Statistical analysis, specifically a t-test with ۵۷ degreesof freedom, resulted in a value of ۳.۰۷۹, surpassing the critical t-value for a significance level of ۰.۰۵. Therefore, the study's findings support the alternative hypothesis that Content-Based Language Teaching effectivelyenhances speaking proficiency.
