Abstract:

Background and Objectives: Investigating the most common risk factors of obstruction caused by adhesions is one of the important topics for researchers in the field of surgery. This study was conducted to compare the risk factors of recurrence and prognosis in patients with small bowel obstruction caused by adhesions (adhesion band) admitted to the surgery department of Imam Khomeini and Golestan Hospitals in Ahvaz from ۲۰۱۸ to ۲۰۲۳.Methods: This was a retrospective descriptive and analytical study. The statistical population of this study was all the people who referred to the surgical emergency of Golestan and Imam Khomeini hospitals oh Ahwaz from ۲۰۱۸ to ۲۰۲۳. After obtaining the ethical code and making the necessary arrangements, the information related to the research variables, including demographic information and specific variables, was designed by the researcher in the data collection form and analyzed with SPSS software. Results: ۴۰۰ participants were present in the present study. The mean age of the participants was ۵.۶۱ years. The results showed that the most common risk factor was a history of previous abdominal surgery with laparotomy incision (۲۶%), and there was a statistically significant relationship between it and the recurrence rate (p=۰.۰۴۲).Conclusion: It is necessary to pay more attention to the most common risk factors causing adhesions caused by small bowel obstruction by surgeons when visiting emergency patients and try to reduce the risk factors. It is suggested that additional studies should be done with a larger sample size.
