Self-Healing Polymeric Hydrogels in Medical: A Review

Self-healing polymers have received much attention and use due to increasing material properties, product stability, and self-healing properties [۱]. Self-healing property reduces the consumption of materials needed for product production. Self-healing polymers are used in various fields such as composites, coatings, medicine, and fibers, which is progressing significantly in the fields of bone tissue engineering, cartilage, skin, and drug release [۲]. In tissue engineering, self-healing polymers have been greatly developed in the field of hydrogel wound dressings due to their many connections, repair ability, biocompatibility, proper adhesion to tissue, and re-formation of their structure [۳]. In this study, self-healing mechanisms, the applications of these materials in wound healing, and the latest research on self-healing hydrogels have been discussed.
