Status, challenges and solutions of professional and interprofessional communication in midwifery in Iran

Background and purpose: The ability to communicate properly is one of midwifery care. Effective professional and interprofessional communication is essential to ensure coordination of care, improve satisfaction, and overall health outcomes for women and mothers. The present study was conducted with the aim of determining the status of professional and interprofessional communication in midwifery in Iran, existing problems and discussing the consequences and solutions to deal with it.Materials and methods: The current research is a review study; Science Direct, PubMed, SID, and Google scholar databases were used to access resources. Published articles were searched and reviewed regardless of language restrictions.Results: In the primary search with the keywords midwife or "midwifery student" and doctor or physician or resident, women and mothers and communication or teamwork or cooperation or interaction and "professional communication" or "interprofessional communication" or "communication interpersonal" and their English equivalents, which were in the final review of 26 articles related to the main topic of this study and were selected for review. The findings in the field of midwives' communication were discussed in the form of headings in the three areas of midwife-doctor communication, midwife-midwife communication and midwife-women communication.Conclusion: Studies show that emphasis on teamwork and interprofessional competencies is more necessary than ever. Educational programs should be directed towards interprofessional and professional training so that the triangular process of doctor-midwife-women communication in the educational environment is formed in such a way that students as doctors and midwives are able to work in a team and cooperate between To acquire a profession in order to achieve the goals of treatment and patient care.
