The Role of Geometry design by Dynamic façade shading typologies to improve thermal comfort approach: A review abstract
The thermal comfort of the occupants depends greatly on the external environmental climatic conditions, which are constantly changing. Advances in software and hardware technology provide sun shading systems with the ability to operate contextually. This development has enabled dynamic shading systems to respond to different environmental parameters such as sun angle and insolation. However, technical understanding of system design, mechanisms and control methods presents challenges to architects and designers. The most ambitious challenge for designers was to find sun parameters an effective shading system, capable of maintaining a balance between capturing daylight and maximizing visibility while minimizing the risk of discomfort and energy load on the building. Current developments in shading systems respond to both environmental and human impacts; led to the idea of a multifunctional, reactive and dynamic envelope, called the Adaptive Facade (AF). Therefore, this study aims to review the current applications and trends of dynamic shading systems to clarify the potentials and limitations of improving system performance based on integrated design goals. The evaluation results reflect a clear classification of shading models and a comprehensive analysis of their performance. This study often provides a systematic framework for architects based on extensive research and investigation. Finally, the study provides some conclusions and recommendations to improve the performance of dynamic shading systems.
