Abstract:

In this research the effects of rotational magnetic field and rotational electrode on electrical discharge machining (EDM) performance have been studied. Here, the magnetic field has various intensities and workpiece is SPK. Experimental trials divided in to three main regimes of low energy regime, middle energy regime and high energy regime. The influence of process parameters were investigated on material removal rate (MRR), electrode wear rate (EWR) and surface roughness (SR). Results indicate that the applying a magnetic field around the machining gap improves the material removal rate and surface quality and also increases the electrode wear rate. Since the magnetic field and rotary tool improve flushing the debris away from machining gap, combination of them increases the machining performance, in comparison of previous conditions.
