The Effect Of Cognitive -Behavioral Therapy On Cognitive Emotion Regulation In Patients With Coronary Heart Disease abstract

The present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) on cognitive emotion regulation in patients with coronary heart disease. The research design was a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest with a control group. The statistical population of this study included all patients with coronary heart disease who were referred to Javad Al-Aemeh Hospital in Mashhad during the first half of 2021 (55 individuals). Based on Cochran's formula, the sample included 48 patients. After conducting the pretest, 30 patients who met the inclusion criteria were randomly selected and randomly assigned to two groups of 15: an experimental group and a control group. The research tool was the Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (CERQ) by Garnefski (2001), and the collected data were analyzed using ANCOVA. The experimental group underwent nine 90-minute CBT sessions based on the therapeutic framework by Wildermuth (2008). The results showed that in the posttest, there was a significant difference in the mean scores of cognitive emotion regulation between the experimental and control groups (P<0.05). These findings indicate that CBT-based interventions can be considered an effective approach for improving coping skills and reducing stress in these patients, highlighting its importance in cardiac rehabilitation and treatment programs.
