Dynamic analysis of rotors on air foil bearings with base excitation abstract

The paper deals with the effect of vertical base sinusoidal excitation on the air foil bearing dynamic behavior. We simulate a rotor system supported by air foil bearings. We apply finite difference method to solve Reynolds equation. The discretized equations are solved by Runge-Kuta algorithm. The results are investigated by orbit and phase diagrams. Based on the results we can conclude that for sub-synchronous and synchronous base vibrations, the rotor response is periodic. However, for super-synchronous vibration, double periodic response is seen.
