Abstract:

In cementing jobs, the used cement after setting have a very low permeabilities which is much very lower than those of producing formations. Research has shown that at temperature exceed 230°F all manufactured cements loss much of their compressive strength which is accompanied by an increase in permeability of set cements. One of the problems could be occurred due to this condition is the gas leakage through a cemented wellbore annuli as well as weak bonding cement. The use of cementing additives such as “silica flour” can reduce this situations and lead to an impermeable cement. The subject of this project is the experimental investigation of the effect of various additives (silica flour and fly ash) on permeability of set cement.
