Abstract:
Capacity drop has received special attention during last decades. There areseveral researches on this topic in which capacity drop was considered bydifferent methods, and models. The point is to provide the brief review oncapacity drop phenomenon on freeways by considering different reasons andeffective parameters leading to its occurrence. In so doing, according toliterature, several factors were introduced, and their impacts on capacity dropwere described. Both, Lane changing manoeuvers, and bounded acceleration ofboth lane changers and inserting vehicles in different bottlenecks are the primaryreasons for capacity drop. In different modeling approaches the parameters usedin modeling procedure have their own impact on capacity drop which has beenmentioned in this paper to get a better insight on capacity drop phenomenon.Influence of lane changing maneuvers, density, free-flow speed, reaction time ofdrivers, and length of insertion at on-ramp bottleneck, bounded acceleration ofvehicles and other parameters, on capacity drop are described in present paper.
