Abstract:

Tehran, with about thirteen million populations is considered as one of the megacities around the world. Excessive demand for water due to growing population, and agricultural and industrial development along with the depletion of nonrenewable resources, intensifies the need for integrated water resources management and optimal use of water resources. Therefore, and given the significant progresses in optimization methods, along with existing complexities in long-term modeling of water resources systems with multiple reservoirs, examining more effective methods and achieving appropriate responses is important. The main goal of this research is developing an integrated model for optimum operation of multi-reservoir system in Tehran using harmony search algorithm. Harmony search algorithms developed recently, are heuristic optimization methods inspired by the jazz music. Although many studies have been conducted on these methods, but their application in the field of water resources is few. In this study, long-term optimization of water resources systems in Tehran is established using different versions of harmony search algorithms. The results are compared with those of other methods including two genetic algorithms, space rule, and the WEAP software.
