Reconstruction of Aircraft Electrical Power DistributionSystem Using Solid State Fault Current Limiter abstract

Recently, More Electric Aircrafts (MEAs) needadvanced electric power systems to answer the variety kinds ofelectrical loads through power electronic equipments.Furthermore, the power electronic converters can be used toconnect all alternative, energy storage systems, and distributedenergy sources to the aircraft electric grid. So, the protection ofsensitive loads and avionic equipments against the fault currentand switching overvoltage is an important task. This paperproposes the Solid State Fault Current Limiter (SSFCL)application in the aircraft electrical distribution system. Thisdevice is connected in series with the main bus-burs and candecrease the fault current amplitude during fault. In order toconfirm the SSFCL operation during normal and faultoperation modes, the MATLAB software is used to simulate thereconstructed electrical distribution network of the aircraftwhile the suggested SSFCL is connected in this network. Thesimulation results show the SSFCL ability to control the faultcurrent and fix the bus-bur voltage to an acceptable level. So,the sensitive loads do not experience the sever voltage drop.
