Abstract:
Composite materials are becoming increasingly attractive to many insudtries including aerospace and automobile , because of their potential for high specific strength and modulus. Their application is currently limited by several aspects including cost of production and their weaker corrosion stability when compared to their matrices. This is because heterogeneities in materials usually result in an sdverse effect in corrosion properties. Many investigators have reported increased corrosion rates for composites as compared to the matrix for a number of compassion , in chloride environments . the corrosion mechanism outlined include galvanic coupling, interfacial phases of high reactivities, micro crevices, voids and porosity depending of the nature of reinforcement and the prossing route.
