Investigation of queuing system application in Hyperstar market abstract
Chain supermarkets, as a new business mode, have brought about the second revolution of retail commerce due to their special sale mode which consists of: high turnover, low profits, competitive price and quality, self-service, and one- for-all purchase”. This business mode greatly drives the circulation of commodities. Estimating the number of servers in any system is a challenging problem. This paper focuses on improving the queuing system of a Hyperstar market based on optimizing the number of servers. Firstly, the bottleneck problems of Hyperstar market queuing are analyzed as well as the concept, classification and methodologies of queuing theory. Secondly, the serving times and time intervals between entrances are investigated and analyzed. Thirdly, the queuing system of a certain Hyperstar market is optimized based on simulation. Finally, the simulated results are discussed and the optimized result is concluded. By using queuing theory, charging system for Hyperstar market was studied and a model of optimizing the number of counters given.This optimizing model of queuing could improve efficiency and decrease management costs. This paper illustrates the use of a queue modeling approach in the analysis of supermarkets’ service. This management solution could be widely applied to the dynamic management of the charging system in large supermarkets. It will also probe into supermarkets’ service management and optimization based on relevant queuing theory.
