An Analysis of Inter-state Disparities in Energy Consumption in India abstract
This paper explains the pattern and trend of energy consumption of Indian states during the period of 1991 to 2012. The inter-state differential is analysis with the comparison of growth of Per capita Electricity Consumption (PEC) for the period of 1991 to 2012. The core objective of this study is to examine the issue of instability of growth at interstate level and analysis of any tendency in PEC to converge to or diverge from a common steady-state path during post-reform period. The results suggest that the evidence of σ-convergence suggests that the states have convergence in over the period. The evidence of β-convergence indicated that the convergence in per capita consumption has been due to less inter-state variations in the state levels.
