Application of pistachio (Pistacia sp.) derivatives in liver diseases improvement: A review

Liver is the largest gland of the human body. The organ regulates a wide range of biochemical reactions of vital molecules. Any condition prevents the proper functioning of liver by damage it, is called liver disease. There are more than hundred types of liver disease. The most common include hepatitis, fatty liver, hepatotoxity, cirrhosis and liver cancer. Pistachio belongs to Anacardiaceae family. Pistachio species grow in the Zagros Mountains, in Iran. Research has revealed the several pharmacological effects in pistachio species. Including reducing blood pressure, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial. In traditional medicine, pistachio is used in the treatment of liver congestion. Resin or water of P.lentiscus is effective in treatment of liver and stomach tumors. In the article, we try to introduce potential pistachio derivatives in the treatment of liver disease; especially fatty liver and hepatotoxity.
