Prediction of mean overtopping discharge at vertical walls on horizontal foreshore abstract

Wave overtopping phenomenon has been actually one of the most interesting subjects during the last years, resulting in promising progresses in this area. Several overtopping models have been developed considering mean overtopping discharge. In the coastal structures, wave overtopping is one of the highest priority design criteria. In this paper, according to CLASH (Crest Level Assessment of Coastal Structures by full scale monitoring, neural network predictionand Hazard Analysis on permissible wave overtopping) database and with the help of nonlinear analysis, new formula isproposed for the prediction of mean overtopping discharge at vertical walls on horizontal foreshore. A comparison is made between the estimated mean overtopping discharge by this new formula and formulas given by other researchers. The results of the new proposed formula show a better correlation with present experimental data, in comparison with those given by Franco et al. (1994), Allsop et al. (1995) and Bruce et al. (2013).
