A Comparative Study of the Ideational Lexical Meaning in English Translation of the Allegorical Verses of Quran on The Basis of Fairclough s Model

The present Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA)-based study was an attempt to investigate to what extent the translators ideological tendencies could affect the translation of the lexical meaning of the Allegorical versesof Quran according to Fairclough (9191). The researcher selected the original Arabic Holy Qur an as a sourcetext and three English translations of the Holy Book as a target language. Three English translated versions ofthe Holy Qur an provided by three translators: Marmaduke Pickthall, A.J.Arberry, and T. Safarzade. The corpus of this study consists of three translations of 05 allegorical verses of the Holy Qur an in to Englishwhich were extracted from different surah of Qur an based on the most Quran scholars’ idea such as AllamehTabatabaee (9199), Soyouti (7552), Soorabadi (7559), Motahari (9119) and Makarem Shirazi (9110). To carry out this analytical descriptive corpus-based study, three English translations of Quran were examined at micro level. At micro-level, the ideological lexical choices were analyzed. The results of this research showedthat each of three translators followed ideological meaning differently. One could see that for 27 observed lexical items adopted in 05 allegorical verses, Pickthall followed the ideological meaning 097215 Arberry 717275 and Saffarzadeh 21705. Pickthall and Arberry are Sunnite and Non-Muslim and Saffarzadeh is Shiite and 21705 shows that Saffarzadeh followed the ideological meaning more
