Abstract:

This study was carried out to examine the effects of using guided discovery technique, climbing mountain game and battleship game on written production of simple present tense. The participants were 90 female elementaryninth-grade high school learners with age around 15, who were divided into the three experimental groups afterensuring their homogeneity by Solution Placement Test. The design of the study was a quasi-experimentalmethod. The scores of the pretest at the outset of the study proved that all the participants equally lacked the ability in written production of simple present tense. All the experimental groups experienced six sessions ofgrammar treatment. The topic of the pre and post test for written production was the same. To investigate thefirst research question of the study, one way ANOVA was conducted. The P value was higher than .05, so that it could be said there was no significant difference in the performance of the three experimental groups. In otherwords, three instructional techniques were equally successful. In order to be more confident of the obtained results Paired Sample T-test was run. The comparison of the pre test and post test of each group revealed aremarkable achievement in the written production of simple present tense. The results of this study are applicable for teachers and students in enhancing learning grammar through guided discovery technique and games.
