Abstract:
This study has been dedicated to the foaming ofbiocompatible blends of biodegradable poly-lactic acid (PLA)and thermoplastic polyurethane reinforced by bio-degradablecellulose nano fiber. The fabricated nanocomposites wereexamined via microstructural, mechanical and diffractometry inorder to evaluate formation of percolated nanocomposites withpromising characteristics. Foaming was then performed on thenanocomposites in a batch process with CO2 as a blowing agent.Experimental analysis of bulk density, cell density indicated thatdepending on the foaming parameters, foams with amicrocellular structure were achievable. The resultsdemonstrated that the high saturation pressure and timeparticipate in high cell density (up to 1.3 × 109 cell/cm3) due tothe grown degree of crystallinity or promoted PLA and TPUmiscibility. Accordingly, adding TPU and CNF to the PLAenhanced the chance of creating high crystalline PLA foamedsamples decorated with low bulk density.
