Revitalization of Emscher River as a Key Element of a Regional Green Space System

The paper gives an idea about revitalization of the Emscher river, located in Germany’s largest agglomeration (Ruhr region) and focuses on the impacts of the project on different ecosystem services, especially social and aesthetic functions, such as recreation, landscape scenery, or soundscapes. New methodologies to identify and quantify ecosystem services within the spatial context of the Emscher river will be discussed. In the long term, Emscher revitalization will contribute increased environmental and life quality in the Ruhr region
