Abstract:

The art of listening with awareness is becoming less common in today’s faced-paced, info-mover society, but it is a vital empathic skill that is rooted in consciousness and needs attention and practice to be developed. When mastered, this way of receiving can create a sense of true connection. How you take in information and what perspective you listen from can transform the overall experience of your reality. Listening as an important part of the second language learning process has been defined as an active process during which the listener constructs meaning from oral input As the listening comprehension skill is one of the most essential skills in any languages, the purpose of the present research was to probe the probable problems that Iranian EFL learners may come across with while they are learning English. Therefore 40 female English learners from Shokouh English Institute were randomly selected. Through administrating the NELSON English language proficiency test, listening comprehension strategies questionnaire and listening comprehension test, this study was carried out. Statistical analysis indicated that there was a significant relationship between Iranian EFL learners awareness of listening comprehension strategies and their capability in English listening comprehension. That is, the more they were aware of the mentioned strategies, the better listening comprehension ability they had.
