Introducing, Numerical Simulating, and Developing of an Archimedes Screw Model as a Turbine abstract
Sustainable energy production is one of the main challenges throughout the world. Due to fossil fuel limitations, there is a need to change the way energy is created and used. Recently, application of new, safe, and renewable energy has been increased. There are a strong potential for small-scale hydropower to exploit resources. In this systems, the hydraulic power (potential and kinetic power) is converted to the mechanical power by using a turbine to generate electricity. The Archimedes Screw Turbine (AST) is a fish and environmental friendly turbine and can be used for this affair in the very low head even nearly zero head places. The behavior study of such a new technology is necessary. The numerical study of the AST performance is current paper objective. The AST geometry was provided in the CAD software environment, and CFD software on Flow-3Dis used to our simulations. Three angular velocity of the screw was considered and the obtained torques were used to analyze the AST power and efficiency. Maximum efficiency was obtained 76 % for angular velocity of 10 rad/s which is a good and acceptable value
