Abstract:

It is now widely accepted that learning English as an international language is quite essential for the modern world as a result of which the demand for learning English has always been increasing especially during the past few decades. Such an accelerating demand has led to a competition among English language institutes for attracting more and more learners. In such a competition, institutes are constantly required to offer high quality education for which they need to be well-prepared to provide sufficient opportunities for their teachers to teach more effectively. One way to provide such opportunities is teacher professional development programs, and in particular, the Teacher Training Course (TTC). TTC is a teacher development course that provides teachers with opportunities through which they can get familiar with different aspects of teaching methodologies and assessment techniques, needed for a successful and high quality educational environment. The present paper reports on the relevant literature aiming at identifying the exiting gap in research on TTC with a particular focus on the Iranian EFL context. Identifying the gap, the paper will then provide some concluding remarks as to the status of TTC in language
